Haugesund Cargo Terminals at Husøy is one of Western Norway’s largest and most strategically important traffic ports. As a key national hub, its role is set to expand even further in the coming years.

The port’s unique combination of a National Fishery Port and a modern container terminal, alongside RoRo and general cargo operations, creates synergies that benefit both industries.

In the FlexLEC Husøy project managed by Flexpartner Energy, shore power will be explored as a flexible asset for the port’s industrial activities. Vessels at the port can require over 4 MW of power, making shore power a valuable flexible resource. Additionally, vessels’ internal generators can temporarily replace shore power for short periods, enhancing operational flexibility.

While Vessel-to-Grid or Ship-to-Grid (S2G) technologies are not part of the current project scope, they hold significant potential - both as a power feed for the grid and as a preparedness measure for emergency situations, such as attacks.
