THEMIS - an EU horizon proposal
In an EU Horizon call, Flexpartner is a partner in the THEMIS proposal. THEMIS proposes a hierarchical, multi-layer socio-technical-economic system architecture that integrates hardware and software components to enable optimal energy management in Energy Communities with high shares of renewable energy and storage.
Flexpartner will contribute across several work packages, providing technical expertise in the development of energy community management systems and participating in large-scale pilot demonstrations. Our role is distributed across the following work packages and tasks:
WP3: Flexibility and Energy Community Management system (FECM)
Flexpartner will contribute to the development of the FECM by designing advanced algorithms and frameworks to enhance situational awareness, decision support, and flexibility aggregation in community-level energy systems while ensuring data privacy. In addition, Flexpartner will identify cross-system synergies and integrate regulatory and business considerations to enable efficient energy coordination, inter-community interaction, and peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading.
WP5: Development of the Business Model, Environmental Impact Assessment and Social Acceptance
Flexpartner will provide expertise on regulatory and market frameworks to evaluate interactions between Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and Energy Communities (ECs), while identifying reforms to reduce participation barriers and support viable business models. Furthermore, Flexpartner will define mechanisms for flexibility valuation and governance and contribute to the requirements of a secure peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading framework.
WP6: Validation, Pilot Cases and Impact Analysis
Flexpartner’s largest contribution is in the implementation of a specific pilot case: FlexLEC Kaupanes. This pilot focuses on establishing a Flexible Local Energy Community in the Kaupanes industrial park, aiming to overcome grid capacity limitations through coordinated flexibility without requiring costly infrastructure upgrades. Flexpartner will define and deploy sensors and equipment and execute real-world validation scenarios to evaluate the performance and operational effectiveness of integrated RA-BEMS and ECM solutions within the pilot environment.
