In this article, Project Assistant at Flexpartner.Energy reflects on her experience within the company, from starting as an intern to becoming actively involved in the development of the Flexible Local Energy Communities (FlexLEC) project. She shares how this opportunity has influenced her personal and professional growth that came with contributing to an innovative, sustainability-driven initiative.

Working at Flexpartner.Energy is a rewarding and inspiring experience that has significantly impacted my personal growth and professional skills.

I started my relationship with Flexparnter.Energy last year as an intern, during which I was tasked with research, utilising my knowledge of issues tied to energy transition to help with spreading awareness of the grid flexibility issue and internal company development, as well as administrative tasks. Furthermore, the idea of Flexible Local Energy Communities emerged during my internship, presenting me with an opportunity to become involved in its development.

Admittedly, at the beginning of my internship I did not fully comprehend the issue of grid flexibility - I knew what it is, why is it important, and that there are technological solutions that can help solve the problem. However, as my internship progressed, I noticed that my thinking about it was too techno-enthusiastic. Rather than treating its solution as a crucial component to sustainable human development, I approached it as a purely technological problem, expecting engineers and data scientists to manage it. Certainly, technology is a crucial aspect of my job, however now I see how it as only a part of a more complex challenge. Grid flexibility is not solely a technical problem - it is deeply intertwined within policy, economics, and local contexts, and addressing it effectively requires interdisciplinary engagement between different stakeholders. Such a change in my perspective is one of the most valuable lessons of my career at Flexpartner.Energy, pushing me to think more critically and holistically about sustainable development, and the role of technology in the green transition.

Witnessing the development and first pilot implementation of FlexLEC is another very rewarding aspect of both my internship and position as Project Assistant. As the idea emerged during my internship, I was able to assist and observe its progress from the beginning, which not only gave me a valuable experience in project development, but also a lot of personal satisfaction seeing it come to life.

Working closely with senior team members, data scientists and experts in the field taught me a lot in terms of project planning, risk management and interdisciplinary cooperation. Flexpartner.Energy’s very strong collaborative culture allowed me to learn from them, and encouraged my professional and personal growth not only regarding the FlexLEC project, but on a daily basis. Moreover, writing the articles on the website taught me clear communication, an essential skill needed to properly convey complex ideas and spread awareness of the grid bottlenecks problem, and the importance of grid flexibility as its solution.

My experience as a Project Assistant has laid a strong foundation for my career. It has helped me grow more confident, adaptable, and aware of the broader impact of my work, which is invaluable to my professional and personal development.
