At Flexpartner.Energy, we believe that Flexible Local Energy Communities will become the backbone of the future sustainable industry. Our FlexLEC project aims at exactly that - bringing flexibility into industry parks, allowing them to utilise more power and simultaneously lead the energy transition.

How does it work?

A FlexLEC project is based on ‘energy sharing’, a simple yet very effective and reliable concept. It means that if the companies in the particular industry park need more energy, and are unable to receive it from the grid operator due to various reasons (grid bottlenecks, inefficient infrastructure, contracts, etc.), they can share the energy between themselves.

In practice, it works as follows: If Company A needs more energy on Monday between 8am and 9am, it can request Companies B and C to lower their consumption during that time. If they agree, Company A should issue monetary compensation to them. An analogical situation would occur if Company B or C requested more power on another occasion.

Flexpartner.Energy takes care of all technical aspects of the FlexLEC’s operation, including analysis of consumption data and flex assets, technical platform, and support services. Flexibility deployment will be decided on by companies themselves, ensuring that the process is easy, fast and efficient.

'Flexibility by Design'

One of the ways in which FlexLEC can be implemented into your industry park may be the ‘Flexibility by Design’ approach.

In software development, the concept of ‘data protection by design’ implies that data protection is integrated into the planning phase of the software. It illustrates the company’s commitment to ensure data security, and not treating it as an extra feature added later on.

The same principle can be applied to flexibility. Rather than treating it as an afterthought, flexibility can be an integral part of the industry park. ‘Flexibility by Design’ may include measures such as purchasing and listing flexible assets, contractually obligating new companies entering the area to adhere to its rules, incorporating flexibility in the plans of retrofitting the infrastructure, or implementing projects such as FlexLEC in the planning stage of the area.

Such an approach not only shows the commitment to sustainability and innovation, but may also be a great incentive for new, like-minded companies and investors to join your industry park.

Benefits for Industry Parks

There are many benefits to adopt FlexLEC project in your industry park, including:

More power in the industry park:

  • Through FlexLEC, the companies in your industry park are able to utilize more power they may need to grow, develop and innovate without waiting for the grid company’s approval.

Sustainability and innovation:

  • Flexibility, as well as ‘energy sharing’ measures are sustainable solutions to the issue of grid congestions and need for more power, as they encourage smart usage of the already-available infrastructure to its maximum potential. Moreover, cutting-edge projects such as FlexLEC employ innovative measures to not only combat the electricity supply problems, but may also help with attracting new companies and grow your industry park.

Easiness:

  • Undoubtedly, operational ease is FlexLEC’s great advantage. Firstly, Flexpartner.Energy takes care of all the technical aspects of the project, including data analysis, consumption forecasting, technical management, etc. Secondly, the companies decide on how they will utilise the aggregate energy themselves, without a third-party intervention. This allows for a fast, efficient, and straightforward decision-making process, which sets FlexLEC apart from traditional aggregators on the flexibility market.
